stressful week

One of the worst things: how life is pretty under control, and then all of a sudden everything hits at the same time.  This week is pretty nuts...but it's finally Wednesday meaning the weekend is in sight!

I'm SO SO SO excited for this weekend.  We're hosting the sectionals round of the NCAA D3 men's basketball tournament, meaning we are playing Friday night and maybe Saturday.  The games should be really fun.  It is also the Chili Festival in Middlebury, so much of my Saturday afternoon will be spent sampling chili.  And it's the 100 days party!!  But there are really ~80 days left until graduation, which I cannot believe.

Also spring ahead is on Sunday.  Usually this is my least favorite day, but I'm looking forward to having more sunlight in the evenings.

Gotta go return to the homework, but with this insane 50+ degree weather, it's impossible not to be on the sunny side!  Happy end of the week!

Inspirational Song

I'm not the hugest Kelly Clarkson fan, but I do LOVE this song!!  What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Back to work, though I am super excited about the impending 3-5 inches of snow (knock on wood).

long overdue

It has been more than two months since my last sunny side post...crazy, since winter break plus JTerm was basically a two month vacation.  A lot has happened since then, but here are some highlights:

-Hairspray.  Playing in the pit band was a lot of fun.  I enjoyed learning percussion and being part of a musical for the first time since high school.  Finally, I don't have the music stuck in my head anymore.
-I learned how to solve the Rubiks cube.  Disclaimer: I looked at the directions that come with the cube.  My best time so far is 1 minute, 52 seconds but I am trying to get faster/approach the world record of 5.66 seconds (!! so crazy).
-I watched Little Miss Sunshine for the first time.  I can't believe I hadn't seen it before.  It's so sunny side.
-I went to Seattle for February break, which was my first ever trip to the west coast.  It was a lot of fun and a great way to get ready for the new semester.
-We are almost two weeks through classes.  I have really liked all of them so far, especially playing in our woodwind quintet.  It's nice to be playing flute a lot again.
-Winter carnival!!  And it even snowed a little bit!

That's about all the excitement in my life.  I'm trying to enjoy this last semester as much as possible...here it goes!

home sweet maine

It has been lovely to be back home.  So far, I have mostly been relaxing: sleeping in, knitting, reading, doing a little last minute shopping.  I also donated my hair yesterday!  I cut off almost 9 inches for the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program...kind of a dramatic change.  I'm enjoying the new style though.

before
after!
Basically that's the most exciting news from Maine.  Not doing work for classes has been great, but here are some things I enjoyed during finals week:

-I Must Belong Somewhere by Bright Eyes.  I listened to this song on iTunes genius a lot.
-Along with If Work Permits by The Format.  Like Imma Be, it features a good tempo change :)
-I started watching the TV show Whitney.  I enjoyed it more than I thought I would...it's actually pretty funny.

That's all for now.  I hope everyone's holidays are off to a good start.  Hope for snow!!

you can do anything for 3 weeks

It's the final countdown to the end of the fall semester.  2 weeks of classes and 1 week of finals are all that's left before winter break relaxation.  There's a lot of stuff to get done, but I just keep reminding myself that soon I will have about 2 months with limited work and lots of free time.

That being said, it was great to have a few days off last week for Thanksgiving.  Some highlights from our western NY adventures:
-spending time with my family
-eating a delicious cupcake (devil's food cake with cream cheese frosting) from Dolce Cupcakery in Pittsford, NY
-eating lots of good food in general, especially stuffing and yummy Chinese food
-knitting (current project is a hat made out of pretty multicolored sock yarn...picture to come upon completion)
-getting tons of sleep

And now for some youtube entertainment:
-Here's a newish Rihanna song I like, We Found Love.
-BeyoncĂ©'s Move Your Body, a dance routine for Let's Move.  It's a program through the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation designed to help make kids more active.  I'm a big fan of dance-related exercise (Just Dance and DDR all the way!)
-If you haven't seen it yet, Marcel Part 2.  Wonderful.

Finally, here's a short article from the New Yorker discussing the Keystone XL oil pipeline and how it relates to Occupy Wall Street.  Enjoy the week, and to quote Mia Hamm for a little semester's end inspiration "I've worked too hard and too long to let anything stand in the way of my goals. I will not let my teammates down and I will not let myself down."  Peace.

200 Days?!

-There are about 200 days until commencement!  How crazy/surreal.
-Today was my last bannerweb registration ever.  I'll miss waking up at 6:50 to enter CRN's as fast as possible (not...)
-Brett Dennen this weekend, yay for happy music.
-A much-needed vacation in less than a week.
-Super excited for winter break, J Term, spring, etc.  Basically life.

halloween!!

The last day of October!  I don't know where time has gone, but it has been passing rapidly.  Since my last post, we've had two great regattas and we're now officially off the water until spring break.  I'm sad, except rowing in the snow is not my fave...so it's all for the best.  Over fall break, I started reading Bossypants by Tina Fey.  It's hilarious and such a great break from homework (which I should be doing now, oh well).  I also got to see my family in Boston, and I'm just so happy with how most of life in general has been going.  Very sunny.

I was a house elf for Halloween - I got inspired at the premiere this summer.  It was fun and exciting to actually have a costume, since usually I forget until the day of.  On an unrelated note, here's a link to an interesting and slightly scary article about bioterrorism: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/30/magazine/how-ready-are-we-for-bioterrorism.html?pagewanted=1&hpw.  It's long but worth it.

Also, this song has been playing over and over on my iPod (and in my mind) for the past few weeks.  I'm putting up a link to the audio: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpWsVw9HfBQ.  If you really want to watch the video, go for it, but fair warning: it's kinda disturbing.  So just listen.

And now it is actually time for homework.  May the fist week of November be productive, fun, and not too cold.  peaceandlove.
