the way life should be

It's hard to believe I've been back home for only a week.  Basically what I've accomplished is:
-gone swimming in the ocean (x3)
-done all my laundry
-read 2 books
But it has been nice to relax and unwind.

I have also been doing a lot of music-listening.  The other day I heard Hey Mama by Mat Kearney and I recommend; it's a happy summer song.

And CAN'T WAIT FOR THE AVETT BROTHERS ON THURSDAY!!

Also, here's an article about the benefits of being bilingual - motivation to practice my French over the summer?  http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/31/science/31conversation.html?_r=1&ref=science

That's all for now, I'm off to run and enjoy the sun :)

the beginning of goodbye

Over the weekend, a lot of students moved out of the dorms.  I still have one more exam and a full week before I head back to Maine, so it's weird to see everyone starting to leave.

One more exam!  Microeconomics is all that separates me from several months of (near) academic freedom.  I'm really looking forward to doing some reading for fun - perhaps lying on the beach?  Books currently on my list are:
-The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
-A Discovery of Witches
-Unbroken
Can't wait to hit up the library and get started.

In the meantime, my reading mostly consists of the newspaper, so here's an article about college graduates and being overly optimistic (if there is such a thing...)

Also, I'm getting a haircut for the first time in two years when I get back to Maine.  I think I'm going to donate it again, to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, which makes wigs for women with cancer.  Pictures to come once that happens!

And finally, Hello by Martin Solveig.  I've been listening to this song on repeat for most of the past week...I think it's rather sunny side.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Na85fPGYCM

That's all for now.  Don't the rain get you down.

a bit of stress

I don't like finals week.  Especially in the spring.  The sun is so tempting, but there's a seemingly endless amount of studying to do.  Tomorrow the madness begins, but soon everything will be over.  I'm about to go to bed in preparation for my morning exam, but I wanted to share some good new-ish music from Josh Ritter (thanks Will!).  Good for studying.

Also, so excited about the new addition to the crew family :)  Here's the little sweater:

Good luck with the next week!  Don't forget to smile and spend time with friends...because you can't always be studying.

THE END OF THE YEAR?!?!?!

It's the last week of classes.  Crazy.  I'm excited for: Maine, the ocean, warm weather, having free time.  But I'm not so psyched about: finals, (almost) being a senior, leaving friends behind.  I really can't believe it's already been three years.  That being said, I'm set on having a great final three weeks.

This past weekend was the New England Rowing Championships, our last main regatta for the season.  It was a beautiful day and a great way to end the spring.  Crossing the finish line after our second race was the first time I have cried at crew out of happiness.  There really isn't anything like a 2k.

So.  It's back to work as the deadlines draw nearer.  If you're in need of some procrastination, though, here's a great website: http://cuteroulette.com/#/.  It's like stumbleupon but only cute videos.  And here's my sunny side advice for finals week:
-listen to good music
-take walks outside (when it's sunny)
-sit down for meals in the dining hall/enjoy the company of friends
-don't stress, because it really all matters a lot less than you think.
And some happy little easter chicks.  Enjoy :)
